A Vold Adventure
When it comes to bronco busting, Jake Vold has all of the right genes.
The Ponoka cowboy is a member of one of the most famous rodeo families in Canada.
“It makes you want to drive on and continue on with the family name,” Vold said. “All I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid was to be a cowboy and I’m living my dream right now.”His father, Lawrence, is a cattle buyer who used to compete in bareback riding. He’s a third cousin to Canadian Rodeo Hall of Fame stock contractor Wayne Vold and former saddle bronco rider Doug Vold, a six-time qualifier to the Canadian Finals Rodeo.
Vold, 26, began riding broncos when he was about 15 and worked his way up through the high school ranks before competing on the amateur and pro circuits. He has qualified for the Canadian Finals Rodeo five times.
The pro rodeo trails lead to Calgary once again in 2014. A total of 120 of the world’s top rodeo cowboys and cowgirls have earned their way to the richest outdoor rodeo in the world. The Calgary Stampede Rodeo is a showcase for the rodeo’s elite. The competitors you see earned their way here by being the World’s Best.
