Do you know that each and every one of us can be more vulnerable when we are to work alone, especially if we work at night or at a remote location. If a worker gets injured or finds him or herself in trouble, there need to be a reliable prearranged way for them to get the help they need in a timely manner and very quickly. It’s not enough to rely on the assistance of the general public as this may fail.
In other words, working alone may not itself be a hazard, but the fact that a worker is alone can unquestionably magnify the risk associated with every hazard in the workplace. Simply because there’s no guarantee there will be anyone else around to help if the worker is in trouble or injured.
Pipeworx Ltd. does have a program/policy in place for those that may be working alone, and we’re asking everyone, particularly those that find themselves working alone, to stop and ensure this program is followed. A hazard assessment shall be conducted by the affected parties to identify existing or potential hazards arising from the conditions and circumstances of an individual working alone. The hazard assessment shall be in writing and shall be communicated to Pipeworx Ltd, as well as to all workers and on-site supervisors who are affected by the assessment. An effective means of communication shall be established between the workers and response personnel.
