Inspection
Boom Inspection
All booms shall be visibly inspected prior to each use to detect possible deformed, cracked, or corroded members in the load/stress bearing structure. Any boom section with suspected cracks must be repaired by certified or coded welder or undergo a magnetic particle or other suitable crack detecting inspection prior to their use on Pipeworx sites. All repairs must be in strict conformance with manufacturers documented guidelines.
Crane Hook Inspection
All Crane Hooks require a visual inspection, dimensional check and magnetic particle examination. This shall be performed on all Crane Hooks prior to use on Pipeworx sites. Crane hooks must be made from either forging or casting (steel or alloy) that have been quenched and tempered. Each Crane hook will be stamped, using low stress stamps, with an identification number and a safe working load (“SWL”) that shall appear on all documentation showing that the hook is forging or casting.
Proof Loading
Proof loads must be applied to all crane hooks by a Competent Certified Test Engineer authorized to
apply overload forces. The hook must be proof loaded by either:
- The hook manufacturer.
- An accredited testing facility.
- The hook owner using certified weights.
- The certificate must be issued by the hook manufacturer or by an accredited testing facility.
A copy of certificate shall be available to Pipeworx Ltd. upon request.
Visual Inspection and Dimension Check
A visual Inspection and dimensional check shall be performed on all crane hooks before they are
initially put into use, and also before being used on any engineered lift by a competent person.
