Arial Work Platforms (AWP’s) and Mechanical Lifts
All Arial Work Platforms (AWP’S) and Mechanical Lifts shall be mechanically inspected prior to mobilization on any Pipeworx managed site. Copies of the inspection shall be forwarded through the contracts administrator to Pipeworx site HSE department and posted in the equipment log. All Arial Work Platforms and Mechanical Lifts shall be operated in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.
Arial Work Platforms and Mechanical Lifts shall be inspected daily and shall not be operated if
conditions pose a hazard to safe operation.
All operators of personnel hoists such as telescopic or knuckle boom work platforms or scissor lifts shall have training in the operation through an accredited training provider that is endorsed by the manufacturer, prior to use. To minimize re-training and multiple training related costs, a strong emphasis should be placed on sole sourcing types and models of Arial Work Platforms. All Arial Work Platforms (AWP’s) and Mechanical Lifts shall be equipped with a 20lbs ABC fire extinguisher. If the fire extinguisher is in the basket, the weight shall be taken in account when
calculating the imposed loading prior to ascent.
The Arial Work Platforms (AWP’s) and Mechanical Lifts must be capable of supporting, without failure, its own weight and at least five times the maximum intended load. Criteria for guardrail systems and body harness anchorages must meet all regulatory requirements.
Arial Work Platforms (AWP’s) must be equipped with a guardrail system which meets regulatory requirements and be enclosed at least from the toe board to the mid-rail with either solid construction or expanded metal having openings no greater than ½ inch.
A grab rail will be installed inside the entire perimeter of the Arial Work Platforms (AWP’s). If an access gate is installed, it must swing inward and it must be equipped with a restraining device to prevent accidental opening.
